Abstract:
Objective:To study the value of flow cytometry in identifying extramedullary (except cerebro-spinal fluid) involvement of acute leukaemia(AL).Methods:In the patients who were diagnosed and treated in Hebei Yanda Ludaopei Hospital from Oct.2008 to Dec.2014,extramedullary samples from acute leukemia patients were detected by flow cytometry.Results:Malignant cells were found in 59 samples.The median percentage of tumor cells was 41.93%(0.38%~97.87%).The immunophenotyping of bone marrows(BM) from 51 patients were detected at the same time,of which 29(57%) had concurrent BM diseases.The median percentage of tumor cells was 10.91%(0.02%~85.19%)in BM.Patients after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(allo-SCT) had lower frequency of concurrent BM diseases(P<0.001).Comparing to acute myeloid leukaemia(AML),acute lymphoblastic leukaemia(ALL)had higher frequency of solid extramedullary involvement(P<0.05).In AML,French-American-British classification M4/M5 leukemia and CD56 positive AML were proned to having extramedullary involvement(P<0.01,P<0.001,respectively).Conclusion:Extramedullary (except cerebro-spinal fluid) involvement of AL could be effectively detected by flow cytometry.
