Abstract:
Objective:To evaluate the expression of SOX2 and C-Myc in advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC),and to investigate the clinical significance.Methods:Collect the data of 64 cases with advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in our hospital from 2008 to 2014.The expression of SOX2 and C-Myc were detected using the immunohistochemistry EnVision method.Results:There were 51 males(79.7%) and 13 females(20.3%) among the 64 patients with advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.The number of male patients was much higher than that of female patients.There were 44 patients with lymph node metastasis,the metastatic rate was 68.8%.The distant metastasis rate of patients was 51.6%(33/64),and the common sites of metastasis were lung,liver,bone,stomach,bronchus,etc.Immunohistochemistry showed that SOX2 and C-Myc were both localized in the nucleus,and the positive rates of SOX2 and C-Myc expression in advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma were 51.56% and 25%,respectively.The high expression of SOX2 was closely associated with distant metastasis (P=0.046),but not associated with other pathological parameters.The increased expression of C-Myc was associated with TNM stage (P=0.018),but not with other pathological parameters.The co-expression of SOX2 and C-Myc protein was closely correlated with TNM stage (P=0.020) and N stage (P=0.027) of advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.Conclusion:The high expression of SOX2 is closely associated with distant metastasis in advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma,which is expected to be a new therapeutic target.
