Abstract:
The cell-to-cell communication between tumor cells and theirmicroenvironment is crucial to the occurrence and development of tumors.Intercellular communication can occur through a variety of mechanisms,but the specific information exchange methods between distant cells in tumor tissues are still not very clear.The tunneling nanotube is a slender thin film tube that can directly connect cells.As a newly discovered type of cell communication,it can directly mediate the exchange of information and the transfer of cellular cargos between connected,non-adjacent cells and thereby promote tumor proliferation,invasion,metastasis and treatment resistance.This article reviews the recent advances of tunneling nanotubes in tumors and discusses their potential as therapeutic targets for tumors.
