Abstract:
The midbody is the microtubule organizing center in mammalian cells. Its main function is involved in spindle assembly and it is a key regulator of cytokinesis.CEP55 (centrosomal protein,55 kD) is a latest found mitotic phosphoprotein, and CEP55 is a member of the coiled-coil protein family. Its main function is anchoring the microtubule polymerization-related proteins, involving in spindle formation, then regulaing cell proliferation. The proteins are expressed both in normal tissues and tumor cells.CEP55 is coupled with the centrosome and midbody during the cell cycle. It play an important role in cell cycle regulation after phosphorylation.CEP55 overexpression has been found to significantly correlate with tumor stage, aggressiveness, metastasis and poor prognosis in multiple tumor types. In this study,we examined the role of CEP55 as a biomarker of tumorigenesis, progression and prognosis by discussing the role of CEP55 in different pathways and its regulatory factors.
