Abstract:
Objective:To assess cancer prevention and treatment knowledge and screening status among high-altitude Tibetan residents in Sichuan,and to provide scientific basis for further study.Methods:489 Tibetan residents were included.A self-designed questionnaire was used to collect the general information,cancer prevention and treatment knowledge,and screening status.Descriptive analysis,chi square test,and multivariate regression analysis were used to analyze the influencing factors.Results:The total awareness rate of cancer prevention and treatment knowledge was 61.3%.The awareness rate in people over 45 years old(63.7%) was higher than those 45 years old or below(58.6%),those with college or above(71.3%) was higher than those with high school or below(58.9%),the healthcare industry(66.1%) was higher than those of non-healthcare industry(60.3%),residents in township(62.4%) was higher than those in countryside(60.1%),all with significant differences(P＜0.05).Residents agreed of regular cancer screening(82.4%) and were willing to adopt doctors' suggestions(86.3%),however,only 15.5% of them actually participated in regular cancer screening,which was related to age,education,occupation and residence.32.3% of the residents actively obtained cancer related knowledge which was related to age,education,and occupation(P＜0.05).Multivariate analysis suggested that age,education,and monthly income were independent influencing factors on residents' awareness of cancer prevention and treatment knowledge.Age,education and occupation were independent influencing factors on residents' regular screening and active acquisition of cancer related knowledge.Conclusion:The cancer prevention and treatment work carried out among high-altitude Tibetan residents in Sichuan Province has achieved certain results,but the overall knowledge and screening level are still relatively low.Further efforts should be made to strengthen cancer prevention and treatment publicity.
