Abstract:
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a malignant tumor that occurs in the digestive system, and it ranks at the top of the list in terms of incidence and mortality worldwide. The tumor microenvironment (TME) mediates the progression of CRC,and tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) serve as a major component of the TME,regulating multiple processes such as the occurrence, proliferation, migration, invasion, and drug resistance of CRC.This review summarizes the origin, polarization, and phenotypic regulation of TAMs,as well as the progress in understanding their regulatory mechanism and therapeutic strategies in CRC.Although further exploration is needed in the clinical research of TAMs in CRC,the therapeutic significance of TAMs in CRC has been established, providing insights into the understanding of the relationship between TAMs and CRC.
