Abstract:
Tumor cells have crosstalk with the tumor microenvironment by influencing the stromal cells and stroma to create a microenvironment conducive to tumor development.Adipocytes are one of the important stromal cells, and cancer-associated adipocytes are a type of adipocytes that exhibit a malignant phenotype and are adjacent to tumor cells, playing an active role in the entire process of tumor development, invasion, metastasis, and therapeutic response.Cancer-associated adipocytes secrete multiple factors and alter the biological characteristics and behavior of inflammatory immune cells to participate in tumor inflammatory response and immune regulation.Reprogram metabolism to meet tumor cell requirements, and remodel the extracellular matrix to facilitate tumor progression and metastasis. In addition,cancer-associated adipocytes are also involved in mechanisms of resistance against tumor treatment. Therefore, targeting the mutual crosstalk between cancer-associated adipocytes and tumor cells may provide new ideas for tumor treatment. This paper reviews the formation of cancer-associated adipocytes in the tumor microenvironment and describes the mechanisms by which cancer-associated adipocytes promote tumor progression and drug resistance and discusses possible therapeutic targets.
