Abstract:
Objective:To investigate the expression and clinical significance of β-catenin and LEF1 in cervical squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and squamous intraepithelial lesions.Methods:55 cases of cervical SCC tissues,42 cases of LSIL tissues,34 cases of HISL tissues and 21 cases of normal cervical tissues were enrolled.Immunohistochemical analysis of β-catenin and LEF1 was performed.The expression of β-catenin and LEF1 in cervical lesions,the correlation with cervical lesions and the relationship with clinicopathological parameters were analyzed.Results:The expression rates of β-catenin cell cytoplasm in SCC,HSIL,LSIL and normal cervical tissues were 32.7%,29.4%,23.8% and 4.8%,respectively,and the difference was statistically significant (P=0.003).The nuclear expression rates of β-catenin were 41.8%,32.4%,28.6% and 9.5%,respectively,with statistical significance (P=0.002).The positive rate of LEF1 was 69.0%,50.0%,26.2% and 9.5%,respectively,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.001).The abnormal expression of β-catenin was correlated with the degree of SCC differentiation (P=0.036) and lymph node metastasis (P=0.033).The expression of LEF-1 was correlated with the FIGO staging (P=0.020) and lymph node metastasis (P=0.024).β-catenin (rs=0.375,P<0.001) and LEF1 (rs=0.443,P<0.001) was positively correlated with the development of cervical lesions.LEF1 and β-catenin expression were positively correlated in each group(rs=0.403,P<0.001).Conclusion:The expression of β-catenin and LEF1 is increased in cervical squamous cell carcinoma and cervical precancerous lesions,and is associated with the differentiation,lymph node metastasis and FIGO staging of cervical squamous cell carcinoma.
