Abstract:
Objective:To compare the ultrasonographic characteristics of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) and papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) with different sizes of nodules in order to comprehensively analyze the ultrasonographic characteristics of MTC and PTC.Methods:The gender and maximum nodule diameter of 86 MTC patients and 330 PTC patients were collected from February 2010 to December 2022.MTC and PTC were divided into macronodules (>10 mm) and micronodules (≤10 mm),and the ultrasonic characteristics of MTC and PTC macronodules,MTC and PTC micronodules were compared between groups,respectively.t-test or Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the age and maximum diameter of nodules between the two groups.Chi-square test or Fisher exact probability test was used to compare the gender and ultrasonic characteristics of the two groups.Results:The maximum diameter of nodules in MTC was larger than that in PTC,and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.001).There was no significant difference in gender between MTC and PTC patients (P>0.05).PTC macronodules were higher than MTC macronodules in terms of irregular shape,unclear boundary,micro-calcification and no acoustic halo,and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.001,P<0.001,P<0.001,P=0.032).The ratios of aspect ratio<1,grade 2 blood flow in MTC macronodules were higher than PTC macronodules,and the difference was statistically significant (P=0.018,P<0.001),and there was no significant difference in echo characteristics (P>0.05).The ratios of irregular shape,unclear boundary,micro-calcification,no acoustic halo,aspect ratio≥1,grade 0 blood flow in PTC micronodules were higher than MTC micronodules,and the differences were statistically significant (P=0.014,P=0.014,P<0.001,P=0.028,P=0.019,P=0.001),and there was no significant difference in echo characteristics (P>0.05).Conclusion:PTC macronodules and micronodules,MTC macronodules and micronodules have certain ultrasonic characteristics,and there is the overlap of the characteristics of benign and malignant ultrasound,and the former has more benign ultrasound features.
