Abstract:
Transrectal ultrasonography is one of the most useful imaging in assessing rectal cancer.Meanwhile, precise diagnosis and treatment of rectal cancer plays an important role in extending patients' survival period and improving their quality of life.Nowadays, multimodal transrectal ultrasonography, including two-dimensional transrectal ultrasonography, elastography, double contrast-enhanced ultrasonography,three-dimensional transrectal ultrasonography and endoscopic ultrasound guided fine-needle aspiration have made some progress in the diagnosis of rectal cancer,TN staging and clinical complete remission assessment. In this review,we discuss the strengths, weakness and latest development of the diagnosis and treatment in rectal cancer by multimodal transrectal ultrasonography.
