Abstract:
Objective:To analyze the co-infection of epstein barr virus(EBV) and human papillomavirus(HPV) in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) in Nanchong,Sichuan Province and its clinical significance. Methods:Paraffin embedded tissues of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients confirmed by pathological biopsy were collected.EBV-DNA and HPV genotyping were detected by molecular hybridization and PCR fluorescence quantification. The correlation between EBV and HPV co-infection and demographic characteristics,staging,treatment-related side effects and short-term efficacy was analyzed. Results:The overall infection rate of EBV in NPC patients was 81.7%,HPV infection rate was 40%,and HPV and EBV co-infection existed in 28.3% of NPC patients. The infection rate of EBV in middle and late stage patients was higher than that of HPV infection, the CR rate of EBV single infection patients was 29.4%,and the CR rate of HPV infection(HPV single infection+EBV/HPV co-infection) patients was 63.6%,the difference was nearly statistically significant(P=0.074).There was no difference in gender, age, smoking status and the four infectiong status. Conclusion:The infection rate of EBV in NPC is higher than that of HPV.The infection rate of EBV is higher in middle and advanced stage patients, and HPV infection is more common in patients under 60 years old. There is a certain proportion of EBV/HPV co-infection in NPC patients. In the background of EBV infection in NPC,HPV infection may be a molecular marker for good prognosis.
