Abstract:
Objective:To investigate the radioprotective effect of S-allyl-L-cysteine (SAC) in garlic extract.Methods:30 d survival experiment was used to observe the survival condition of mice 30 d after irradiation with 7.5 Gy γ-rays.Blood and immunological experiments of mice were carried out to observe white blood cell (WBC),femoral nucleated cells,bone marrow DNA content and organs index after irradiation with 7.5 Gy γ-rays.Results:The results showed that compared with the irradiation group,the survival rate of mice treated with SAC increased,especially for the middle dose group.Compared with the irradiation group,white blood cell count,the number of femoral nucleated cells in bone marrow,bone marrow DNA content and spleen nodules of mice administered with middle dose group increased from 0.17±0.05,0.56±0.07,0.21±0.14 and 1.02±0.30 to 0.67±0.08,4.45±1.76,0.58±0.12 and 2.71±0.21 respectively,which were statistically significant (P<0.05).Moreover,SAC also had some protective effect on the organ.Conclusion:S-allyl-L-cysteine of garlic extract can reduce the radiotherapy injuries in mice.
