Abstract:
Objective:To improve the understanding of the disease,we reported a rare case of submandibular myoepithelial carcinoma (MEC).Methods:Analysis of the clinicopathological characters,immunohistochemical staining,diagnosis and treatment,and the follow up were performed,and the related literature was reviewed.Results:The patient had a long clinical history,misdiagnosed as "mixed tumor" twice ever,and recurrenced three times after resection.Histology features showed neoplastic cells with invasive growth pattern were arranged in nest,solid or cords.Tumor cells varied in density and predominantly composed of spindle cells,epithelioid and clear cells,with a few squamous corpuscles.Focal tumor cells displayed high mitotic activity and obvious cytological atypia,but necrosis was not observed.The immunohistochemistry results showed the epithelial and myoepithelial markers such as CK,p63,CK5/6,SMA,Calponin were positive,and the proliferation index of Ki-67 was about 20%.Conclusion:MEC with various morphological features should be carefully identified because of the possibility of misdiagnosis and delayed hospital treatment at early stage.Pathology and immunohistochemical examination are helpful for the right diagnosis.Surgical resection is the main treatment,and we should follow-up closely owing to the high recurrence characteristics.
