Abstract:
Objective:To investigate the predictive value of separate detection of tumor venous blood circulation tumor cells (CTCs),carcinoembryonic antigen messenger ribonucleic acid (CEA mRNA) and combined detection in colorectal cancer patients for metachronous liver metastasis.Methods:The CTCs and CEA mRNA were detected in the tumor venous blood of 75 patients without liver metastasis and the correlation indexes of CTCs and CEA mRNA with metachronous liver metastasis and TNM staging were analyzed after half year follow-up.Results:The sensitivity of separate detection of CTCs,CEA mRNA andcombined detection to predict metachronous liver metastasis was 86.7%(13/15),73.3%(11/15)and 90.9%(10/11),respectively,and the specificity was 90.0%(54/60), 83.3%(50/60)and 92.2%(59/64),respectively.CTCs,CEA mRNA levels are closely related to TNM staging(P<0.05).Conclusion:Metachronous liver metastasis is associated with tumor size,depth of tumor invasion,degree of tumor differentiation,lymph node metastasis and TNM staging.CTCs and CEA mRNA could be used as early predictors of metachronous liver metastasis from colorectal cancer.Combined detection of CTCs and CEA mRNA is more effective than separate.
