Abstract:
Autophagy is a catabolic process whereby intracellular biomacromolecules and organelles are degraded in lysosomes of eukaryotic cells,which plays an important role in maintenance of cellular homeostasis and mitigation of metabolic stress.Autophagy exists widely in physiological and pathological processes.Autophagy plays a dual role in tumorigenesis,which may be characterized as both tumor suppression and tumor promotion.Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most common malignant cancers in aged men.The researches show that autophagy is closely related to the development,progression,radiotherapy,chemotherapy and endocrinotherapy of prostate cancer.Many studies shows that autophagy inhibitors combined with androgen deprivation therapy or docetaxel is a promising approach to the treatment of prostate cancer.In this review we focus on the relationship between autophagy and PCa and the current evidence showing the capacity of autophagy inhibitors to exert their action in modulation of prostate cancer therapy.
